Born in 1969, COL. (AF) Fabrizio BORGONOVI joined the Italian Air Force in 1988 and graduated from the Air Force Academy – Pozzuoli in 1992 with a military Bachelor Degree in Aeronautical Sciences. After his graduation in Texas as a Military Pilot, he was assigned to the 46th Air Brigade in Pisa where he flew the G222 transport aircraft for seven years. With the rank of Major, he was then assigned from 2000 to 2003 to the NAEWF in Geilenkirchen (Germany) where he flew NATO AWACS up to the Instructor level. Back to the 46th Air Brigade he became the 2nd Flying Group Commander C-130J. After attending the Military Staff College, in 2007 with the rank of Lt. Col. he was then assigned to the Air Staff in Rome as Project Manager of the C-130J and C-27J programs. After 5 years, with the rank of Colonel, he was appointed to be the Task Force Air Commander of the Italian C-130J Detachment in Abu-Dhabi (UAE) for 8 months and after that he came back again to Pisa as the Operation Staff Officer first and then Wing Commander. In the summer 2017 he was then assigned to SHAPE as the Chief GEO. Over his career he flew over 4000 hours on different aircrafts and he has done a lot of flights in support of all kinds of national and International commitments over Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa. His diverse and rich professional experience ranges from the definition of the military requirements for transport aircrafts to the participations to various working groups. He has been the Italian representative inside the JUG (Joint User Group) taking care of all the technical aspects related to the C-130J system upgrade. Personal decorations and awards include Meritorious Service Medal for distinguished military service, Medal for long command period, Medal for long service in the Air Force, Medal for NATO Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Congo with the EU. Col. BORGONOVI is married to Sabrina and they have one child. He speaks English and German. He is interested in physical fitness and practices many sports.
