Air Cdre Adam M Bone

Commander, National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence UK MoD

After graduating from Initial Officer Training in 2000, early postings included the Joint Air Reconnaissance Intelligence Centre, the Joint Special Forces Aviation Wing and the UK Permanent Joint Headquarters as a lead intelligence officer. He has also completed tours in United States Central Command as the UK counter terrorism liaison officer and in sub-unit command on the RAF’s groundbreaking 39 Sqn. Air Commodore Bone has taken part in various operations across the globe and as an exchange officer with an Australian Defence Intelligence Agency. Bone was the senior intelligence officer at the UK’s high-readiness Joint Force Headquarters, where he supported global missions including non-combatant evacuation operations in Africa and support to UK elements in Iraq as part of Op SHADER. A posting to the Air Staff in MOD Whitehall followed where he was responsible for RAF Strategy, specialising in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance. Bone has also led the Air Intelligence Profession and Information Warfare team from RAF Air Command before being selected as the Principal Staff Officer to the RAF’s Chief of the Air Staff for a busy tour which included support to Op PITTING and Op SCORPIUS. More recently, Air Commodore Bone has been the Deputy Commander of UK Space Command where he was responsible for oversight and development of the Joint Force Space Component, commanding all assigned and attached Space Forces on behalf of Commander UK Space Command and all planning activities across the areas of capability integration, space support and space domain training. From here, he took command of the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence, an organisation with whom he has previously served as Officer Commanding Operations. He is working hard to transform delivery of geospatial intelligence for Defence, and its partners and allies, while also leading DI’s open-source intelligence capability. Bone has a Masters in Politics and International Relations from Trinity Hall, the University of Cambridge, where he is an elected Bateman Fellow.
