Maj Andy Smith

Major Andy Smith RE commission into the Corps of Royal Engineers in 2010. In his early career he spent time as a warfighter and armoured engineer, deploying operationally to Afghanistan and providing close engineering support to 3rd (UK) Division.

From 2021 – 2023 Major Smith commanded 13 Geographic Squadron providing deployed GEOINT support to 3rd (UK) Division and Whitehall. Since 2023 he has been the Deputy Programme Manager for Programme ISTARI delivering the UK’s first sovereign Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) satellite constellation for Defence. Andy has an MSc in Geospatial Intelligence and is a Chartered Manager. He has a passion for ski mountaineering, plays and coaches community hockey and is a very proud father of two.
