Director of Intelligence Directorate European Union Military Staff (EUMS)

Brigadier General Danail BAEV has assumed the duties as Director of the Intelligence Directorate of the European Union Military Staff.

Brigadier General BAEV has served in the Bulgarian Armed Forces since 1995. After graduating from the National Military School in 2000, he fulfilled his initial appointments within the 68th Special Forces Brigade. Afterwards, he joined the Bulgarian Defence Intelligence Service. In 2008, he graduated from the Rakovski National Defence College. Most recently he has gained and developed experience in the area of military diplomacy, specifically serving as the Assistant Military Attaché (2012 - 2015) and Military, Air and Naval Attaché (2017-2020) in Moscow. Appointments within the Bulgarian Defence Intelligence Service have contributed to and enhanced his operational and management skillset.

Immediately prior to assuming his position in the EUMS, Brigadier General BAEV held the appointment of Director of the Operations Directorate within the Defence Intelligence Service. In this capacity, he was directly responsible for Bulgarian assets abroad.

He is married with two daughters. In his free time, Brigadier General BAEV enjoys traveling and is a fitness enthusiast. Additionally he is a keen follower of both Formula 1 and Biathlon.
