Director of Intelligence Directorate European Union Military Staff (EUMS)

Brigadier General Danail Baev has assumed the duties of Director Intelligence of the European Union Military Staff as of 1 April 2024.

He has served in the Bulgarian Armed Forces since 1995. Following his graduation from the National Military School in 2000, Brigadier General Baev commenced his career within the 68th Special Forces Brigade. He later joined the Bulgarian Defence Intelligence Service. In 2008, he completed his studies at the Rakovski National Defence College.

Brigadier General Baev has also developed extensive experience in military diplomacy, having served in Moscow as Assistant Military Attaché (2012 - 2015) and Military, Air and Naval Attaché (2017 - 2020).

Appointments within the Bulgarian Defence Intelligence Service have further strengthened his operational and managerial expertise. Immediately prior to his current assignment, Brigadier General Danail Baev served there as Director of the Operations Directorate and was directly responsible for Bulgarian assets abroad.

He is married and has two daughters. In his free time, Brigadier General Baev enjoys travelling and is a fitness enthusiast. He is also an avid follower of both Formula 1 and Biathlon.
