Brigadier General Osman ALP was born in Ankara in 1962. He graduated from Kuleli Military High School in 1981, from Military Academy in 1985 and from Higher Technical School of Surveying in 1987 as a surveying engineer. He started working at Department of Geodesy, General Command of Mapping and conducted geodetic field surveying measurements of conventional triangulation network. This was followed by measurement and process of gravity, establishment and improvement of national gravity and elevation data banks. He took part in some projects such as determination of Turkish gravimetric and astrogeodetic geoids, measurements and adjustment of National Magnetic Secular Network. He also spent time on digital terrain modeling. He attended a course on Global Positioning System (GPS) at Durham University in UK for two months in 1990. He got Master’s and PhD degrees from Istanbul Technical University, respectively in 1993 and 1998. He earned also a Master’s degree EU Law in Selçuk University in 2007. Starting in 1997, he worked at different positions, namely, NATO and International Agreements desk from 1997-2000, International Affairs Section from 2000-2006, System Development Section from 2006-2007, Logistics Department from 2007-2010.He was appointed as Chief of Staff in 2010 and served between 2014-2016 as Chief of Technical Departments. He taught Surveying in the Department of Civil Engineering and City Planning at Gazi University and in the Department of Civil Engineering at Middle East Technical University, Electronic Distance Measurement and Spherical Trigonometry in the Higher Technical School of Surveying. He was appointed as Director of General Command of Mapping on 08 August 2016. He was promoted to Brigadier General on 30 August 2017
