Capt Damon Mitchell

Operational Support Team, 16 Geo Support Sqn 42 Engr Regt (Geo), UK MoD

Capt Damon Mitchell has served in the British Army for 25 years, as a geographical technician in the Royal Engineers.

His early career as a Geodetic Surveyor, included conducting surveys in Oman, Gibraltar and precision support to the warfighter. Following his class 1 trade course, he supported the RAF aerial survey and reconnaissance mission seeing operational tours of Oman, Iraq, Afghanistan as well as supporting the FCO counter narcotics mission. Following 4 years of aerial survey liaison, he held postings supporting DSF and the Special Support Team focused on supporting global CT and Counter CBRN operations.

In July 2017 Capt Mitchell was posted to NGA as the Tradecraft and Training LO, liaising between UK DI GEOINT and US GEOINT activity. In May 2020, he was commissioned into the Royal Engineers where his experience was exploited in creating a team of specialists to support the deployed Geo diaspora. Gaining recognition within DI, the Operational Support Team has provided enduring forward support to UK and global operations.

Capt Mitchell is married with 2 young children who, as a family have embraced and enjoyed life in the forces. When not exploring their surroundings in Cambridgeshire, Capt Mitchell’s interests are Rugby, cycling, motorsport and outdoors cooking.
