Colonel Orest Babij enrolled in the Canadian
Forces in 1987. Upon completion of basic officer training in Chilliwack,
British Columbia, he proceeded to the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC)
Kingston, where he studied for an honours degree in history. After graduation
in 1991, he immediately began a doctorate in British military history at Oxford
University. While completing his doctoral dissertation, he returned to Royal
Military College of Canada (RMC) Kingston and taught military history from
1996-1999. He transferred from the Reserves to the Regular Force in 2000.
As an intelligence officer, Colonel Babij has had diverse experience at the tactical and strategic levels. He has been employed as a troop commander in an Electronic Warfare Squadron, as the unit intelligence officer for The Royal Canadian Dragoons, as an All-Source Cell Platoon Commander in 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (2 CMBG) Headquarters as well as the Brigade G2 Plans and G2.
