Col Cockwell is a geospatial intelligence professional with more than 30 years experience in Defence and Security spanning engineering, innovation and information systems as well as GEOINT. From 2016 to 2019 he was the British Army’s senior Geographer with responsibility for functional leadership and assurance of more than 500 specialist soldiers and officers. In his current role of Dep Head GEOINT in Joint User Intelligence & Cyber he is Programme Director for the PICASSO equipment programme that underpins UK’s Defence GEOINT capability and is responsible for MOD’s geospatial intelligence policy as well as geospatial information and data standards. He is also Director of the Defence Geographic Information Working Group (DGWIG), the multi-national geospatial standardisation organisation for Defence and Security.
