Imagery & Geospatial System (IMaGE) Programme Manager, Intelligence Systems, Defence Digital UK MoD

Col Hamish MacMillan is currently serving in Defence Digital as a Dep Head within the Mission Information Exploitation team and leads the Imagery and Geospatial Systems Programme; responsible for the acquisition and support of Defence GeoInt capabilities. He commissioned into the Royal Engineers and has spent much of his time in the GeoInt area, including leading delivery of Geo support in Bde, Div and Corps HQs. Staff jobs included roles as a Group COS and as Military Assistant to the MOD’s Director Cyber, Intelligence and Information Integration. He has commanded 14 Geo Squadron in Germany, the UK’s Joint Information Activities Group, and Advisory Teams in Somalia and Iraq. Operationally he has served in Northern Ireland on public order and construction duties; Iraq and Afghanistan providing Geo support at Div and Bde level; in Somalia commanding the UK’s train, advise and assist mission with the Somalia National Army; and in Baghdad leading an Advisory Team as part of a US Jt Task Force working with the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service. As well as attending the Advance Command and Staff Course he has gained a BSc in Civil Engineering from Durham, an MSc in Geospatial Information from Cranfield, an MBA from Durham University Business School and an MA in Defence Studies from King’s College London. Married for over 20 years and with two teenage daughters, when not supporting their equestrian endeavours he enjoys rugby (now as a spectator and ever hopeful Scotland fan), skiing (touring and alpine), and reading about economics and Information Warfare, ideally with a glass of NEIPA.
