Head of Defence UK Hydrographic Office

Jeremy Churcher joined the Royal Navy in 1987 and specialised as a Hydrographic Surveyor in 1990. His early career focused mainly at sea, involving a range of operational experience and concluding with three command tours, the last, HMS ECHO, seeing him deployed consistently to the Middle and Far East. A graduate of the Advanced Command and Staff Course he has served in Defence Intelligence and Royal Navy Collective Training, involved in the introduction to service of the Carrier Enabled Power Projection capability. His final spell of active duty was spent at the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO), following which he successfully competed to take on the role as Head of Defence at the Office, joining the Civil Service in 2022 as a result. As Head of Defence, he is responsible for current and future UKHO support to Defence, including engagement with the other MoD Specialist Geospatial Centres as well as working to ensure UKHO’s capabilities and responsibilities are better understood across the Defence enterprise.
