John Robson is a career GEOINT officer, presently serving as the Deputy Chief of the NGA Support Teams (NST) United States Space Command (USSPACECOM) at Schriever Space Force Base, CO., providing GEOINT support to America's newest Combatant Command. The NST brings all the capabilities and functional management authorities of NGA, both as a Combat Support Agency and as an intelligence agency, to the Space Command mission.
He has served in a variety of leadership and foreign liaison positions, including:
• Division Chief in the Office of Special Programs
• Senior Liaison to U.S. Embassy Berlin
• Analysis Division Chief, Integrated Work Group - Yemen/Horn of Africa
• Deputy Chief, Korea & South Asia Division
• Chief, Pakistan Branch
• Senior Geospatial-Intelligence Officer/Issue Manager for South & Southeast Asia
• Chief, Military Liaison Group, U.S. Embassy Tokyo
• Team Lead, NIMA Imagery Warning Center
Before assuming leadership roles, Mr. Robson was an imagery analyst working intelligence problems associated with the former Soviet states. Combat Zone Deployments:
• NGA's Senior Intelligence Officer (SIO), Task Force Afghanistan
• NGA SIO, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force - Afghanistan
• USS Dwight D. Eisenhower - Adriatic Sea (Balkans war)
• NATO's Operations ALLIED FORCE and JOINT FORGE (Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina)
Prior to his NGA career, Mr. Robson served as an officer in the United States Army's Infantry and Military Intelligence branches in both domestic and overseas assignments. He transitioned from active duty in 1996 when he joined NGA's predecessor organization, the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA), but continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve. He retired from the Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2005. His last military position was commander of the Reserve detachment that supported U.S. Army Japan (USARJ), dual-hatted as the Deputy G2 of USARJ.
In addition to numerous awards and decorations during his military career, he has received several civilian honors including the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, the Superior Civilian Service Medal, the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Balkans Service Medallion, and two awards of the NATO medal (for service in Bosnia and Afghanistan). He has foreign commendations from Japan and Germany. Additionally, units Mr. Robson led have earned multiple Meritorious Unit Citations. Mr. Robson is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the National Intelligence University’s Post-Graduate Intelligence Program. He is married and has three adult daughters and one teenage daughter. The Robson family presently lives in Colorado Springs.
