Soenke Fischhoefer, the Senior Geospatial Officer of the European Union Military Staff, has been serving as a Geo-Officer since 1997. Currently he is the Chief Geospatial Officer of the EUMS. Soenke's career track is characterised by the civil studies at Hamburg and Hannover University, his working experience as a civil engineer, and the changes between staff officer's positions with aspects of Geo support across all domains and positions where leadership in peacetime and crisis establishments was requested. 1984-1986 he was trained as an Electronic Warfare Officer. 1986-91 he studied Geology to a MSc level (German"Diplom").
Between 1991 and 1997 he worked in construction companies
and as a hydrogeologist in public service. 1997 the German Geo-Service asked him to re-join
the army as a technical expert for cross country movement mapping.
He did several posts between Muenster/ DEU – Euskirchen/ DEU – Duesseldorf/ DEU –
SHAPE/ J2 Geo/ BEL – Euskirchen/ DEU – EUROCORPS/ Strasbourg/ FRA – Muenster/
DEU and Cologne/ DEU.
Main focus was in Geo-policy related to national, NATO and EU topics, support to Intel,
operational planning, procurement and – in his previous position – geo-data in the aeronautical
domain.
He participated in missions abroad as a Chief Geospatial Officer in KFOR 2003 (Multinational
Brigade Southwest), in HQ ISAF in 20
