Wayne is currently Head of Defence at the UK Met Office based in Exeter, UK.
He leads the Defence team who manage the organisation’s business relationships with defence customers including MOD and UK Defence Agencies, as well as the organisation’s extensive connections with NATO and the US Defence community most notably US Air Force and US Navy.
Wayne is currently Chair of the MET5 group of the national weather and defence agencies from the UK, US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. MET5 is building cohesion and capabilities across the national weather services and militaries in weather, ocean and climate and space.
Across a Met Office career span of nearly 40 years, Wayne has worked extensively across the UK’s operational defence network as a meteorologist and within a headquarters environment at a strategic level in relationship management, business development and communications.
Through 2011-2014 in Geneva, Switzerland at the World Meteorological Organisation, Wayne led the development of the UN organisation’s Capacity Development Programme Office attracting and programming over $60M annually in development projects in Africa, Asia and oceanic regions of the Pacific and Caribbean regions.
Outside of work, Wayne lives in Alton, Hampshire and is father to two daughters. He is keen on the environment, wildlife (especially birds), fitness and sport.
