A key part of the UKRI-Science & Technology Facilities Council's mission is to ensure that its investment in major facilities in the UK and overseas and peer reviewed funding within UK universities, has a positive impact on the UK's economy through innovation. The Business and Innovation Directorate is responsible for applying knowledge from UKRI-STFC's facilities, research and technology programmes to the wider economy, delivering UK economic growth through spin-out companies, supporting start-up companies, tenant management, inward investment to the Harwell campus and collaborative industrial R&D'.
